A Dutch invention, born between hardcore and trance. Its signature is two things: a long kick shaped until it turns melodic, and the "reverse bass", played off the beat to give that rocking, see-saw feel. The style lives at very large scale, the Netherlands and Belgium give it whole festivals and arenas, with pyrotechnic staging that is part of the genre itself.

Hardstyle may be the most codified electronic style: a near-fixed tempo around 150, an announced structure, and a visual vocabulary (fire, lasers, yearly anthems) that belongs to the track as much as the sound does. Every major Dutch festival commissions its anthem, played at the opening and sung back by the whole field.

It is also the style that lives furthest from the club: its dates are whole weekends in open fields or arenas seating tens of thousands, first in the Netherlands and Belgium, with regular dates in Germany, France and Italy.

Krowdexx are an Italian hardstyle duo formed by Giulio Destefanis and Simone Calvino, from Alba in Piedmont. Their first track, "Y.A.T.", came out in late 2015 on the Dutch label X-RAW Records; they went on to release on Gearbox Digital and Scantraxx.

Rooler

Rooler is the stage name of Christopher Rossi, an Italian DJ and producer born in 1994. He makes raw hardstyle, recognisable by its distorted kicks and dark atmospheres. His records have appeared on Spoontech Records, Dirty Workz, Intents Records and Q-dance, and with Atmozfears he wrote "Into The Wild", the official Intents Festival 2024 anthem. He is also behind "Flyin' High" with Warface and "Set Me Free" with TNT.
