A city that exists three days a year: on a former air base in Weeze, Parookaville sells visas instead of tickets, stamps its « citizens' » passports at the town hall and rebuilds its Mainstage around a new theme every summer.
It all began with a beach party on the town hall square of Weeze, a small Lower Rhine town near the Dutch border. Bernd Dicks, a local and a reporter for the radio station 1LIVE, ran it from 2011 with his friends Norbert Bergers and Georg van Wickeren. By 2014 it drew 5,000 people and the square was too small: the three friends looked to the nearby airport, already home to the hardstyle festival Q-Base.
They spent two years on the concept and chose a city over an enchanted world, so as not to copy Tomorrowland. The first edition, on 17 and 18 July 2015, had 5 stages and about 80 DJs; planned for 25,000 people, it sold out and won the LEA award for festival of the year. The site grew with each edition: 40,000 people a day in 2016, three days and a 70,000 m² Arena carved out of a former sand pit in 2017, 75,000 people a day since the 2022 return, after the cancellations of 2020 and 2021.
The story is that of Bill Parooka, a fictional founder whose 7 m statue towers over the site. You enter with a visa and become a citizen, the Townhall stamps your passport every year, you get married at the Warsteiner Parooka Church, tattooed at the Jail, and send postcards with a special postmark. The stages sit on a former Royal Air Force base: the Cloud Factory in a hangar, Power Plant and Time Lab in hardened aircraft shelters.
In 2026 the 17, 18 and 19 July edition sold out, with about 225,000 visitors over three days according to the organiser, more than 300 artists and a Mainstage named « The Aquarius », an underwater world. Charlotte de Witte played her first Mainstage closing and a 360-degree stage opened in Desert Valley. The next edition is set for 16, 17 and 18 July 2027.
Redesigned every year, its theme stays secret until the festival: a giant amplifier in 2022, a brewery in 2023, a glass-domed greenhouse (« Bill's Greenhouse ») in 2024, an underwater world (« The Aquarius ») in 2026. It stands at the end of the Arena, a former 70,000 m² sand pit.
The fictional founder's home, a Victorian mansion bristling with chimneys and gears. Built as the Mainstage in 2016, then the second open-air stage, it was fully rebuilt for 2025; the 700 m² Bermuda Quadrangle pool faces it.
A former aircraft hangar whose bare steel houses glowing clouds that light up to the beat. At 2,700 m², it is the largest indoor stage on the site.

Parookaville covers the whole of EDM. The Mainstage hosts big room and house headliners, and every other stage is handed, day by day, to a « stage host », a label or DJ, who sets its colour: hardstyle, trance, techno, trap or deep house. Desert Valley leans towards techno, deep house and psytrance, and the festival has its residents, Lost Identity on the hardstyle side and Frdy on the house side.
The booking keeps its regulars: Steve Aoki, Armin van Buuren, Felix Jaehn and Robin Schulz return regularly, alongside Hardwell, Timmy Trumpet and W&W. It also reaches into techno, from Sven Väth and Richie Hawtin to Amelie Lens, Boris Brejcha and Charlotte de Witte. For 2027 the organiser has announced Lost Frequencies and Steve Aoki on Friday, BUNT. and Don Diablo on Saturday on the Mainstage.
By train to Weeze station on the RE 10 Düsseldorf - Kleve line, then by paid shuttle to the site; public transport is not included in the ticket. The station - campsite shuttle is free for Green Village and Deluxe Village. Party buses also run from many cities, and car access follows the festival's own traffic plan.
The campsite spreads over three districts: Camping District (including the party Base Village and the quiet, waste-free Green Village), Caravan District for campervans and vans, and Glamping District with the Deluxe Village, ready-pitched accommodation with power. In 2027, check-in is on Thursday 15 July from 10 am (Wednesday with the Early Campsite Access add-on), check-out on Monday before 3 pm.
Sales go only through the official TicketPAY shop, and resale through its resale shop. For 2027 the shop lists, excluding fees, €109 for Sunday, €145 for Friday, €175 for Saturday, €279 for the weekend without camping and €379 with Base Village or Green Village; a €289 Young Visa (camping included) is reserved for 18 to 25 year olds.
Entry is restricted to over-18s, even with a parent. Tickets are personalised: ticket and ID are checked at the first check-in, then exchanged for a wristband to keep on all weekend.
Everything is paid cashless with the RFID chip in the wristband, topped up online before or during the festival. A waste deposit is paid with camping tickets and refunded against a full bag.
Tents for more than 8 people are banned and a 3 x 3 m gazebo is only allowed for groups of 5 or more; pitches are allocated on arrival by security. Generators and car batteries are banned in the Deluxe Village, and loud music is forbidden at night in the Green Village.
From Friday 16 to Sunday 18 July 2027 at Weeze Airport, 2 pm to 4 am on Friday and Saturday, 2 pm to 1 am on Sunday. The campsite opens on Thursday 15 July at 10 am.
