Born in Breda, the Netherlands in 1969, Tijs Verwest began DJing in Dutch clubs in the mid-1980s before founding the Black Hole Recordings label with Arny Bink in 1997. His first solo album "In My Memory" (2001) and his remix of Delerium's "Silence" brought him to a wider audience; DJ Mag readers voted him world number one DJ three years running, from 2002 to 2004. In 2004 he became the first DJ to play live on stage at an Olympic opening ceremony, in Athens.
