On a former nuclear missile base in the Hunsrück hills, Nature One brings tens of thousands of ravers together every summer among bunkers, big tops and a campsite the size of a small town.
The first Nature One took place on 26 August 1995 at Hahn airport, in the Hunsrück hills, under the motto "Open Air Rave": 13,000 people and 38 DJs, among them Marusha, Tanith, Paul van Dyk and Paul Elstak. Wikipedia credits the Swiss entrepreneur Nikolaus Schär with the idea; the festival is now run by I-Motion GmbH, based in Mülheim-Kärlich, near Koblenz.
From 1996 the party moved to the Pydna, near Kastellaun: a base meant to store 96 cruise missiles from 1986-1987 under NATO's double-track decision. Camping arrived in 1997, the first clubs running their own floor in 1998, and there were sixteen of them by 2003. Attendance rose from 20,000 people in 1997 to 50,000 in 2003, then to a record 72,000 in 2014 on the organiser's list.
Every edition has a motto and an anthem, long credited to "Nature One Inc." and produced over the years by ATB, Jerome, Cuebrick, Jay Frog or Neelix. The layout stays the same: a few big stages, the OpenAirFloor, the Century Circus, the Classic Terminal, and some fifteen floors handed to clubs and collectives, between, on top of and inside the concrete bunkers. Around it lies the CampingVillage, where people camp next to their cars and hundreds of amateur DJs play on their own stages.
Cancelled in 2020 and 2021, the festival returned in August 2022 with 60,000 visitors. In 2025 it celebrated thirty years under the motto "Celebrating Thirty Years"; in 2026, "rave. now. together." drew 55,000 people according to the organiser and 350 artists, including Fatboy Slim for the first time at the Pydna. Nature One won a Dance Music Award in 2003 and the audience prize at the Helga Festival Awards in 2013.

The big open-air stage at the foot of the tower, home to the most crowd-pleasing headliners: Paul Kalkbrenner played it in 2026. It is also where the big Saturday-night fireworks go off.

The Century Circus, a ten-mast big top and the largest covered space on site, is billed as the "Home of Techno". Other tents host the big themed stages, including the SYNDICATE Zone and its hard styles, hardstyle, hardcore and uptempo, in 2026.

Some fifteen club floors run by clubs and collectives. HEXENHOUSE and SUNSHINE LIVE & FAZE Mag play on the bunker roofs, ten metres up; Acid Wars and TUNNEL play inside, between metre-thick reinforced concrete walls.

More than a million square metres of meadows, the size of 150 football pitches stretching two and a half kilometres: people pitch their tents next to their cars, from Wednesday to Monday with the add-on. The neighbouring SilentCamp promises quiet from 10 pm to 6 am.

The stages built by the campers themselves, with their own sound systems, foam cannons and hundreds of amateur DJs playing day and night. According to the organiser, acts from the official line-up sometimes drop in for a secret set.

A big fireworks display lights up the OpenAirFloor and its pyramid structure on the night from Saturday to Sunday, still on the programme in 2026 according to the dpa news agency.
Nature One covers nearly all of electronic music. The OpenAirFloor gets the most crowd-pleasing names, the Century Circus techno, the SYNDICATE Zone hardstyle, hardcore and uptempo, the Classic Terminal rave classics; the club floors add trance, goa and psytrance, drum and bass, house and hard techno, depending on the collectives invited.
In 2026 the bill brought together Fatboy Slim, Paul Kalkbrenner, Sven Väth, Paul van Dyk, Westbam, I Hate Models, Lilly Palmer, Angerfist and Neelix; in 2025, Charlotte de Witte, Eric Prydz, Chris Liebing b2b Luke Slater and Reinier Zonneveld. The 2027 line-up has not been announced yet.
