808 State are an English electronic group formed in 1987 in Manchester by Graham Massey, Martin Price and Gerald Simpson. The name comes from the Roland TR-808 drum machine. Their debut album Newbuild came out in September 1988; commercial success followed in 1989 with "Pacific State".
