Four days and four nights in early August in the heart of Cluj-Napoca: since 2015, UNTOLD has put its main stage inside the city's stadium and the rest of the festival in the park next door, a few streets from residential blocks.

The story

The first edition ran from 30 July to 2 August 2015, the year Cluj-Napoca was European Youth Capital, mainly inside Cluj Arena. Armin van Buuren, Avicii, David Guetta, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike and ATB headlined, and the organisers reported some 240,000 entries over four days. A few months later the festival won Best Major Festival at the European Festival Awards, after a single edition.

The festival grew fast without leaving the city centre: ten stages and some 300,000 people as early as 2016, more than 330,000 tickets in 2017, more than 370,000 attendees in 2019, when the first two waves of 15,000 passes sold out in 3 and 10 minutes. Cancelled in 2020 because of COVID-19, it returned in September 2021, then moved back to early August. Reported figures then rose to over 420,000 in 2023 and over 470,000 for UNTOLD X, the tenth-anniversary edition, in 2025.

The official site numbers its editions as chapters, each with its own world, and the Mainstage carries the set: a giant phoenix in 2023, for example. The whole thing fits inside the city: the main stage on the pitch and stands of Cluj Arena, a nearby indoor hall for house and techno, and the other stages in Simion Bărnuțiu Central Park. The festival is led by its founder and CEO Bogdan Buta; Edy Chereji is a co-founder.

In 2026, UNTOLD ONE, the 11th edition, ran from 6 to 9 August across nine stages, and the organisers report more than 500,000 cumulative entries, with a crowd from more than 150 countries. The festival was ranked 3rd in DJ Mag's Top 100 Festivals for the third year running in 2026. The same team runs Neversea on the beach in Constanța and UNTOLD Dubai, but Cluj remains the original.

Mainstage

Set inside Cluj Arena, it changes its set every edition, a giant phoenix in 2023. The headliners play here and the fireworks go off here; in 2026 Sting opened the festival on it and Padre Guilherme closed it.

The city's stadium serves as the main arena: the crowd fills the pitch and the stands, and the last night runs on into the morning.

Parc central

Simion Bărnuțiu Park, next to the stadium, holds the main entrance and several stages: Daydreaming under the trees for melodic and Afro house, the Tram Stage in front of a real tram, TIME for more intimate sets.

The music

UNTOLD is not a purely electronic festival: the Mainstage mixes EDM and big room with pop and rock headliners (Sting and Lewis Capaldi in 2026). House and techno live at Galaxy, hip-hop and drum & bass at Alchemy, melodic and Afro house at Daydreaming.

In 2026 The Chainsmokers marked ten years of "Closer", Loredana Groza appeared during Lost Frequencies' set, and Animal X returned to the stage on the final night for its first show since splitting. Afrojack B2B R3HAB and Steve Aoki wrapped up the last night. The 2027 names have not been announced.

Getting there, staying there

Getting there

Cluj-Napoca International Airport is linked to the centre by taxi, car hire and trolleybus no. 5; trains reach Cluj from most Romanian cities. The site is in town: in 2026 bus lines were reinforced, night buses ran until morning and Uber drop-off was on Nuferilor Street.

Where to stay

There is no official campsite, the festival is in the city. The organiser sells four-night packages in student residences (UTCN, UBB, Hasdeu) and in Cluj hotels.

Tickets

4-day passes sold in phases, rising in price, on tickets.untold.com. Online check-in is free for 30 days after purchase, then €15 online or €25 at the festival. VIP Mainstage and Galaxy Backstage are 18+ only.

Age

Under 7: free entry with a guardian, ear defenders compulsory under 3. From 7 to 16: ticket, accompanying adult and signed declaration. From 16 to 18: ticket, declaration and ID.

Paying on site

Everything is paid with the wristband, topped up online (untold.com account or app) or at Credit Points, by cash or card. Unspent balance can be refunded.

Rules

Bags limited to 29 x 21 x 12 cm; food, drinks, umbrellas, drones and cameras with detachable lenses are banned. In 2026 the gates were open from 4 pm to 5 am, and lockers cost 150 lei for the four days.

Can minors attend UNTOLD?
