About this event

The "Sacred Oath" edition stopped after its opening night: on Thursday 25 June The Gathering went ahead, then overnight the KNMI issued the first code red extreme heat warning in Dutch history, and Q-dance cancelled the rest of the weekend together with the authorities. The RED never opened to the public; the Endshow was fired on the empty grounds and streamed online. Ticket holders could choose between a refund and a place in 2027.

The story

The first edition took place on 14 June 2003 on Almeerderstrand beach in Almere, organised by Q-dance, in front of some 25,000 people and to the anthem "30 Minutes" by DHHD. The festival stayed there every mid-June until 2010, as a single day, growing to 40,000 visitors.

In 2011 it moved to the event grounds next to the Walibi Holland park in Biddinghuizen, Flevoland, and to late June. Three days from 2012, then, after the two pandemic summers without a festival, four days from 2022, with The Gathering on Thursday evening for campers. The brand also ran an Australian edition from 2009 to 2018 and a Chilean one in 2015 and 2016.

Every edition has its theme and its anthem, given to a producer from the scene: "Weekend Warriors" by Frontliner in 2013, a name that stuck for weekend festivalgoers, "Where Legends Rise" by Vertile in 2025, "Sacred Oath" by D-Sturb in 2026. Stages are named after colours rather than names, and the weekend runs on its set pieces: the Opening Ceremony on Friday, POWER HOUR and the Endshow on Saturday, the Closing Ritual on Sunday.

In 2026 the edition stopped after the Thursday 25 June opening night: overnight the KNMI issued the first code red extreme heat warning in Dutch history, and Q-dance cancelled the rest of the weekend together with the authorities. The RED never opened to the public; the Endshow was fired on the empty grounds and streamed online. Ticket holders could choose between a refund and a place in 2027, themed "The Deepening".

For 2027 the organisers announce fifteen colours.

In 2025, for Q-dance's 25th anniversary, the Sunday Legends set brought together 61 artists over five hours, from pioneers such as Zany and DJ The Prophet to D-Sturb and Warface, and Headhunterz joined the final salute. In 2026 more than 350 artists were booked. For 2027 Rebelion makes the anthem, Outsiders will open the RED and Brennan Heart gets back The Spotlight he could not play.
