Boom celebrates its thirtieth anniversary from Sunday 18 to Sunday 25 July 2027, under the full moon, at Boomland, the land the organisers own on the shore of the Marechal Carmona reservoir near Idanha-a-Nova. This edition's theme is Psychedelic Renaissance. All 40,000 tickets (€290 in the first phase, plus fees) sold out in two hours on 13 October 2026, without a single name announced: the edition is full, and the official website remains the only authorised seller. Camping and parking are included, and Boom Bus bookings open at the full moon of March 2027.

The first Boom took place on 14 August 1997 in the "magic forest" of Herdade do Zambujal, at Águas de Moura near Setúbal, in front of some 3,500 people. Behind it was Good Mood, the outfit that brought goa trance to Portugal in the early 1990s, and a group of friends and artists who put no names forward: keeping a low profile is part of the doctrine.
The festival moved to the shore of the Marechal Carmona reservoir at Idanha-a-Nova in 2002, crossed to the other bank at Herdade da Granja in 2010, and bought that land in September 2016: this is Boomland. Biennial from the start, it lost 2020 and 2021 to covid, then ran 2022 and 2023 back to back to switch to odd years. The 2027 edition marks its thirtieth anniversary, under the theme Psychedelic Renaissance.
Boom has never had a sponsor: no brand, no logo, no venture capital. It lives off tickets, bars and pitches rented to stalls, publishes its accounts and has no VIP area and no star billing. Yet tickets go before a single name is out: sold out every edition since 2014, 40,000 tickets gone in 48 hours in 2025, then in two hours on 13 October 2026, to buyers from 169 countries.
The other distinctive trait is ecological, recognised since 2008 by the Outstanding Greener Festival Award. The site has 538 compost toilets, 57 free drinking-water points and its own wastewater plant, which treats almost all the water used; in 2025, 90% of the food on offer was vegetarian or vegan. The festival also funds Kosmicare, a harm-reduction association operating under a permit from the Portuguese drugs agency SICAD.

Alchemy Circle
The laboratory, under a timber frame shaped like a human heart: psytrance crosses paths with techno, progressive, acid, drum and bass and bass music.
Sacred Fire
The live music stage, hand-built from woven willow in the woods: traditional music from around the world and, in 2027, psychedelic rock and dub concerts.
The Gardens
The chill-out sanctuary, with the lake as a backdrop, among permaculture gardens: downtempo, dub, ambient, psychill and mid-tempo sets.
Liminal Village
The knowledge hub founded in 2002: talks, panels, workshops, masterclasses and cinema, under a big top.
Art & Installations
The whole site is an open-air gallery, with monumental sculpture, land art, digital and water art, alongside the Envisionary Art Gallery devoted to visionary art.
The music
Boom grew out of goa trance and remains first of all a celebration of psychedelic culture. Psytrance rules the Dance Temple, the Alchemy Circle blends it with other electronic music, and the rest of the site slows down: live world music at Sacred Fire, ambient, dub and downtempo at The Gardens.
The bill is renewed on purpose: in 2025, 42% of acts were playing Boom for the first time and 43.6% of the official programme was female. For 2027, the organisers say at least 70% of projects will not have played in 2025, with more artists under thirty. No names have been published yet.

Getting there
Boomland is about 260 km from Lisbon and 360 km from Madrid. The official Boom Bus runs from Lisbon, Porto and Madrid airports right into the site (26% of attendees used it in 2025); otherwise take a train or bus to Castelo Branco, 52 km away, then a shuttle, or drive via the A1 and A23.
Where to sleep
Camping, parking and the caravan park are included in the ticket. Tipis, tents and recyclable cardboard tents can be rented on top; campervans are welcome, with no electric hook-up.
The lake
Swimming is allowed in the designated areas: the lake water is safe to swim in, not to drink. For drinking, there are 57 free water points, so bring a reusable bottle.
Heat
The organisers warn of up to 40 °C during the day, cool nights, dust and dry ground with a high fire risk. No fire or flame of any kind is allowed, camping stoves included.
Children
Children aged 14 and under get in free, with a €1 registration. The Young Dragons area welcomes them from 9am to 9pm, always with an adult; the festival advises against bringing children under 3.
What stays at home
Glass, gas canisters, personal sound systems and generators, pets. The festival also asks people to leave national flags and selfie sticks behind, and not to bring chairs onto the dancefloors. Payment on site is cashless, cash at the Bazaar.

It is the organisers' choice: they say they could run it yearly but prefer a biennial rhythm, with the land used for a regeneration programme in between. After the 2020 and 2021 cancellations (covid-19), back-to-back editions in 2022 and 2023 moved the festival to odd years.
